Fire

The fire was getting closer to the city. The tongues of black smoke licked the narrow windless streets of the city. The air was heavy and the smell of smoke had soaked in everything to such degree that people no longer noticed the smell. Eyes of citizens were red and burning. Breathing was a real torture. People had tied a piece of cloth soakedin water;in front of their mouth in desperate hope for relief. Lack of oxygen in the streets had made most of the people hide in the buildings. The heat was also unbearable and it crept though the soles of shoes the very moment you stood still too long. The luxury of air conditioning was only the privilege of the rich, therefore Chris used every possibility to sneak into fancy shops and wander around as long as he could till the guard saw him and kicked him out.
